Individuals With Disabilities
Cristo Rey Community Center's Individuals With Disabilities Program focuses on those clients who fall between the cracks of other similar programs in the area. Clients often come to the program when they are homeless, hungry and confused.
The Individuals With Disabilities Service Program provides services to adults with physical, mental or emotional disabilities to obtain and maintain their independence, resolve problems, learn self-sufficiency and receive ongoing services within the community. The program specifically targets those hardest to serve, and those in greatest need.
The Drop-In Area is a space set aside in the Center for consumers to have coffee, watch TV, play games or just hang around. It is open Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm. Clients clean and maintain their space. Many also volunteer to help in other programs at Cristo Rey.
Direct Consumer Assistance provides supportive services that directly help people overcome barriers or teaches them to deal with problems on their own. Such services include linking consumers with basic needs programs, assisting them in applying for disability benefits, working with other agencies to help consumers develop marketable skills, assist consumers with budgeting and maintaining a stable life, helping to schedule appointments and providing transportation.
Advocacy and Education counsels on behalf of consumers and teaches them how to advocate for themselves as they learn about community resources, promoting a sense of empowerment and raising self-esteem.
